Bugs Bunny isn't the only one who loves carrots. Many people love to munch on them, add them to salads, or cut and add them into stews or to accompany roasts.

  • Carrots come in orange, white, yellow, red, and purple.
  • Carrots were first cultivated over 5,000 years ago in what is now known as Iran and Afghanistan.
  • Carrot seeds are so small that 2,000 can fit in one teaspoon.
  • The city of Holtville in California, the “Carrot Capital of the World,” has an annual carrot festival that was started in 1947.  
  • Baby carrots came into existence with Mike Yurosek, a California farmer who came up with the idea of cutting and peeling blemished carrots to make them appear perfect.

Cautions

Consuming too many carrots can cause Carotenemia, a condition known for turning skin yellow-orange. Avoiding beta-carotene rich foods will return the skin to normal.

Consuming too many carrots may cause digestive problems and also have a negative effect on blood pressure.

People on any medication should consult with their doctor before including carrots in their diet to avoid a food-drug intolerance risk.
